Wild Rose 1 Project

Location:  The Project is located 45 km southeast of Medicine Hat and 20 km south of the Irvine. The Project Study Area is located on the north and south sides of Highway 515 north of the Cypress Hills Park.

Total Planned Installed Capacity:  204MW

Estimated Annual Production:  Upon completion the Project will produce approximately 684 GWh hours.

Original Project Area: This area contains approximately 10,000 acres of private agricultural and grazing lands.

Project Extension Study Area: This area contains privately owned land added to the northern boundary of the Original Project Area. Environmental studies are now complete and a final project layout is now complete ( see new layout map here ). An open house was held in July 2009. Project Footprint: The actual land area occupied by the Project facilities including turbine sites, new access roads, transformer station site and the collector lines will be approximately 50 acres.

Turbine size:  The turbine height from base to hub will be approximately 80 metres and each blade will be approximately 40 metres in length. The height from ground to maximum blade height will be 120 metres. 

Planned Commercial In-Service Date: Fall 2011.

Project Update: The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was approved for the Original Project Area in May 2008 and an EIS is now ready for the Project Extension Area.  Rezoning of the land use for all Project Lands was completed in August 2009.
 
An application amendment for the Power Plant application with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) is being prepared and will be finalized shortly. Please see the AUC application and consultation brochure (hyperlink) for more information on the AUC process.
